Our Analysis and Test Results
The ENO Doublenest is a reliable doublewide hammock that is durable enough for everyday use. The hammock features Bluesign-approved 70-denier nylon taffeta fabric that is available in a variety of color options. The Doublenest is easy to set up thanks to details like the thick 7mm attachment cord, hammock-grade carabiners, and girth-hitched Atlas suspension straps (sold separately). If you're looking for a classic everyday design perfect for one or two people, the Doublenest is an option that can't be beat.
Performance Comparison
Comfort
The ENO Doublenest features a spacious 8.9' x 6.3' hammock body combined with FreeWave fabric that comes with a crinkle treatment, which aids in softness and reduces some of the rigidity. The hammock is perfect for one person to wrap themselves inside the additional fabric, or for accommodating two people for a relaxing afternoon. Our testers loved that the 70-denier nylon taffeta fabric is Bluesign-approved, meaning no harmful dyes or chemicals are used to create the solid color options.
During our spring testing period, we noted no ailments or bodily complaints after diligently performing our comfort tests that required hours of napping and relaxing to better compare each hammock option. We appreciated the longer length of this hammock and the overall adjustability of the ENO Atlas suspension straps that we purchased separately for testing. Whether lounging horizontally or seated, this hammock provides sufficient comfort and adjustability to customize your personalized setup.
Ease of Setup
The ENO Doublenest features a simple and classic end-gathered design for an easy setup. After testing multiple designs, this one stood apart from more complicated setups that weren't intuitive and required our testers to consult photos and instructions for best results. We tested this design along with ENO's Atlas suspension straps. They allow for tons of customized variations in the setup as well as a simple girth hitch around two trees to get you started. Once the straps are up, simply clip the attached hammock-rated carabiner to the nylon strap, and you're ready to lounge as long as you please.
The updated model of the Doublenest includes specially designed carabiners that create more confidence in their structure due to additional grooves that secure the attachment rope as well as an added notch that allows the carabiner to lock in place during use yet easily release before breaking down. Similar to other end-gathered designs, this hammock is set up and ready to go in a matter of minutes without the need to consult complicated instructions or online videos for more information.
Durability and Protection
The ENO Doublenest is a sturdy design that ups the industry standard for overall durability, thanks to new and improved hardware and a triple-stitched construction. Though the nylon taffeta fabric is treated to be crinkle-free, the material isn't as soft as other options available, reducing comfort but inspiring more confidence in overall durability due to its thicker construction. The design also features a hammock-grade carabiner with additional grooves and notches to provide peace of mind when suspended with your sweetheart above the ground. The end-gathered u-shape construction also supplies beefy 7mm attachment cords and triple-stitched anchor loops to ensure the structure's longevity.
Though the quality of this hammock design is sound, the overall weight capacity is only 400 pounds. While this will be sufficient for most who want to relax solo or with a significant other, most other hammock options that we tested offer a 500-pound weight capacity. When rubbing against tree bark for our durability tests, the more rigid nylon fabric and triple-stitched design held up better than most, perhaps due to a thicker construction than its competitors. Even though the construction is thicker, we noted that it dried quickly after getting wet. We also noted that the hammock-grade carabiners offer more protection in the gate, as they easily snap into place rather than remain open, limiting the strength of the aluminum wire gate.
Versatility
The ENO Doublenest is a better option for those seeking a traditional, end-gathered hammock design that's spacious enough for one or two people rather than a highly customizable backcountry shelter. That being said, this simple design supplies an attached storage sack that also features an internal stash pocket to securely store your small valuables like a wallet, smartphone, or car keys while you are relaxing inside the hammock.
Unlike other options we tested, the Doublenest doesn't feature additional attachment points for pillows or underquilts. However, it is compatible with several ENO accessories, such as a bug net, tarp, or gear sling that sets up below your hammock to easily store additional gear from your day's adventure. While our testers appreciate the available options to customize this time-tested design, we believe there are better backcountry shelter options out there. The Doublenest is best suited for those seeking a classic and traditional end-gathered design with enough versatility within its adjustable suspension straps and stuff sack (also doubles as a secure pocket) for those seeking stand out day use performance for one or two people.
Weight
The ENO Doublenest hammock alone weighs only 19 ounces, and the hammock and suspension straps combined weigh right around 30 ounces, allowing it to receive relatively high weight scores when compared to its counterparts. The design is also incredibly packable, thanks to the attached storage sack that provides just enough space for the hammock but not enough to stuff the suspension straps inside. The hammock stuff sack also features a handle that increases portability, while the latest iteration offers an extended drawstring so you can more easily store your valuables securely and relax worry-free.
The lighter-weight construction and packable design make this an easy option to recommend for everything from day use to backcountry relaxation when you're tuckered from your hike and just want to relax in a beautiful, hard-earned campsite. The compressed size doesn't require much room in your backpack, as it packs down to the size of an ultralight sleeping pad. Though the DoubleNest is a rather lightweight and packable option, our testers have other recommendations for those seeking more of a packable backcountry shelter option rather than a classic day-use design that's built for two.
Should You Buy the ENO Doublenest?
If you're after a tried and true everyday hammock design that is relatively affordable and easy to set up, look no further than the ENO Doublenest. This hammock quickly stood apart from other end-gathered designs that we tested, thanks to its spacious canopy, new and improved hardware, and durable cord attachment points. Though it is necessary to purchase suspension straps separately, our testers love that ENO is considering the health of the planet by including BlueSign-approved materials, planting trees for every purchase, and donating 1% of sales to environmental nonprofits. The Doublenest is perfect for those seeking an ethically-made classic double design for day use, whether in your backyard or packing into the backcountry for an afternoon snooze after a hard-earned approach.
What Other Hammocks Should You Consider?
The ENO Doublenest is one of our favorite hammock options for those seeking a time-tested classic everyday double model that is perfect for day use or backcountry relaxation. If you like the sounds of this design but are after a much softer and sleeker construction that is still versatile and lightweight enough to double as your backcountry shelter, check out the Kammok Roo Double. This hammock features a unique softness thanks to its GravitasX 40D diamond ripstop nylon that is also Bluesign-approved. If you are after an end-gathered design that is similar to the Doublenest but want to save a few extra bucks, check out the Wise Owl Outfitters Kit or the Kootek Portable. They feature similar performance, but they sacrifice a bit of durability. And finally, if you're just looking for the best design to set up in the backyard, check out the ENO Skyloft, whose design offers a flatter surface thanks to a spreader bar on each end for unique comfort that's perfect for lounging in the afternoon.
